Wax casting is an ancient and elaborate metal casting process, which uses waxy materials to make a model, and then through a series of complex steps to the final metal product.

This process not only reflects human's deep understanding of material science, but also shows the pursuit of the perfect combination of art and technology.

First of all, the initial step of wax mold casting is to make wax molds. These wax molds usually need to be very fine, as they will directly determine the shape and details of the final product.

On the wax mold, the artisans also create a pouring system, including runner, riser and vent, to ensure that the metal liquid can fill the mold and exhaust the gas during the casting process.

Next, the wax mold is dipped into the refractory to form a sturdy shell.

This process usually needs to be repeated several times to ensure that the shell is thick and uniform enough to withstand the heat and pressure of the subsequent metal liquid. After the refractory hardens, the wax mold is heated to melt and flow out, leaving a precise cavity that is exactly the same shape as the original wax mold.

The molten metal is then poured into this cavity. The liquid metal fills every detail under the action of gravity and cools to form metal parts with the same shape as the wax mold. After the metal has cooled and solidified, it is necessary to break the refractory shell and remove the metal casting.

At this time the casting may also have sprue and riser, which need to be cut, polished and cleaned to remove excess metal parts.

Finally, after fine grinding and possible surface treatments such as polishing, plating or coloring, a wax cast product of the required size is created.

The wax casting process is favored for its ability to produce complex shapes and fine details of metal products, and is widely used in jewelry, sculpture, precision instruments and art.
